Dr. Gil Dhawan Inducted into AMTA Hall of Fame at MTC 2025

With a career spanning over four decades, Dr. Dhawan has been at the forefront of innovation, shaping the membrane industry and making a lasting impact on global water solutions.

In 1983, he founded Applied Membranes Inc. (AMI) with a mission to develop sustainable solutions for water and wastewater reuse applications worldwide. Under his leadership, AMI has grown into a pioneering force in membrane technology.

His vision, expertise, and commitment to advancing water treatment technologies have played a pivotal role in shaping the industry.

Key Achievements:

• Earned a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo.
• Commercialized the use of reverse osmosis (RO) membranes for maple sap concentration in Canada.
• Developed and commercialized advanced cellulosic and non-cellulosic membranes with Dr. Sourirajan.
• Founded Applied Membranes Inc. (AMI) in 1983 and continues to serve as CEO.
• Designed and built groundbreaking membrane systems, including:
  • The first ultrapure water system for a microchip company.
  • The first solar-powered RO system for disaster relief.
• Authored over 50 publications on membrane technology, covering advancements in ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, and wastewater treatment.
• Trained over 1,500 professionals worldwide through his two-day seminars, many of whom have become industry leaders.
• Continues to mentor and support the next generation of engineers, helping to prototype and commercialize cutting-edge membrane solutions.

Dr. Dhawan’s leadership and vision have left an indelible mark on the industry, and this Hall of Fame induction is a testament to his extraordinary contributions.
